I think the book it up to date and covers the real world's needs for good goverance of IT's policies and procedures. The text was written by some one who has spent years consulting and working in the field with proven results. It is a must for any CIO,IT manager or Systems Analyst.

Solid and Authoritative Reference

If you are in the IT GRC space, this is an excellent reference volume. I found the policies and other material presented to be thorough and well considered, and the explanations and use cases of WHY some of the policies or documentation is structured as is has been very helpful. I use this volume every day.

Use of this book in conjunction with the latest version of "IT Security Policies Made Easy" should pretty much complete your GRC policy and procedure reference collection.

The earlier edition was better and less expensive

Not really worth the high price. You can get many of these policies by "Googling" the policy name. The earlier edition was better and less expensive, but of course now out of date. I tried to get a "peak" of the table of contents before purchasing, but never got a response and now I know why.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS ON DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE I'VE EVER READ!

Martin Meadows has delivered a solid book on the topic of self-confidence. The core of the content focuses on self-efficacy which, as the author explains in detail with clear examples, is at the heart of a persons ability to function.

This is especially true for people with low efficacy because they don't believe that they can do it. They spend their whole lives struggling with trying to build up confidence in so many ways but, as Martin points out, efficacy is the lesser-known reason many people miss. Having read a lot of books on how to build self-confidence, this is the first one I have read that focused primarily on the core concept that self-efficacy is the main problem.

While many other factors may contribute to a person with low confidence, Martin offers lots of suggestions and well-researched articles that prove to readers if they boost their self-efficacy, they can elevate confidence to a level that makes anything possible

• Chapter 1 reveals what efficacy is and how people with a strong sense of efficacy can master certain skills. But people with weak efficacy struggle master anything and avoid challenges.
• Chapter 2 is about mastering the fear of failure. By desensitizing yourself to failure through rejection, you can strengthen your efficacy by overcoming obstacles and producing just small wins at first.
• Chapter 3 is about social meddling and how you can strengthen yourself further by watching others succeed. This can happen through having a mentor or accountability partner/mastermind group. You have a better chance of succeeding by hanging around with people who are on the same level as you and act as a support team.
• Chapter 4 is about social persuasion and psychological responses. This chapter is very important because it focuses on, nit just the power of positive influence but also the power persuasion of negative influences. By focusing on positive small talk you can experience some big wins to push you over the hurdle.
• Chapter 5 is about the 5 rules you can develop for a strong sense of self-efficacy. This was my favorite chapter by far. By setting goals slightly above your ability you can stretch your comfort zone a little more every time. Also a great section here on reframing your thoughts so that you can stop making excuses as to why you can’t do something. The part on locus of control and how we are in control of the events that affect our lives is a powerful truth.

In a nutshell, this little book is worth its weight in wisdom and provides a deeper insight on going more confidence, not by providing cheap tips such as “believe in yourself” but really takes the reader deeper in so that they can explore the weaker parts of themselves. From there, the healing towards gaining greater confidence and clarity in our daily lives becomes a strong anchor.

A highly recommended read that you won’t regret investing the time and money in.

You Can Change Your Limiting Belief's

Martin Meadows has done it again with his new book Confidence. Confidence tackles the very important subject of self-efficacy and self-esteem. How we view ourselves has a direct correlation to how we view the world and the people in it.

Just like all of Martin’s previous books, he has researched the topic well and provides summary’s at the end of each chapter to help lock in the information learned in the chapter.

Here are some highlights from the book that I found helpful:

- People with low self-efficacy have trouble executing on their dreams because they don’t believe they can achieve them deep down.
- Self-efficacy develops during childhood and can help shape your future more than you realize.
- Social modeling can have a huge impact on our confidence and self-efficacy levels.
- Mastering self-efficacy means mastering the small wins!
- Learning from failure is vital to increasing your self-efficacy levels.
- Discouragement has a greater effect on us than positive encouragement.
- Mentorship works - find someone who can help you grow and achieve the results and goals you want.

I found this book to be enlightening and a great reminder that we need to work at self-effacacy every day to help us meet our goals for now and the future.

Self-Efficacy is the name of the game.

"Confidence: How to Overcome Your Limiting Beliefs and Achieve Your Goals" is Martin's third book in the Self-Help series. He has taken another important concept on the topic of self-success and fleshed it out perfectly.

This book introduces us to the concept of Self-Efficacy and why it's important. It teaches us how this seemingly simple concept is both the key to our success and the reason why we often fail before we even begin.

The book touches on the many aspects of self-efficacy - what it is, what influences it, why it's important and what can we do about it.

As is becoming the norm, the book is well written with no noticeable typos, grammar or formatting issues.

While a shorter read than Martin's other books, the message contain inside is no less valuable. Often the most important messages are contained in only a few paragraphs.

This book is a great addition to the authors other works. There is no way a person can remain unmotivated and unsuccessful after reading these books and making use of the tips and instructions contained within. A very worthy read!

Her Lucky Cowboy is my first book by Jennifer Ryan. While it is the third book in her Montana Men series, it can be read as a standalone with interconnected characters. There was a lot to like here, and I really enjoyed a lot about this book. There were however a few things that kept this one from being five stars for me.

Dane Bowden only has to last eight seconds on the bull he is riding in order to win the championship so that he can fulfill his plans and retire from bull-riding and return home to his family's ranch. But the bull has other ideas, and although he wins, he finds himself once again saved by the angel that saved him as a child. With her in front of him once again, Dane realizes that she wasn't just an angel that disappeared. Now a doctor, Bell is the first to jump in when Dane is injured once again. Dane is determined to get to know Bell, as she has never been far from his mind and he was never able to forget her. But Bell is reluctant to let Dane close knowing that her inexperience and social awkwardness can't possibly compete with the many women Dane is used to seeing. But Dane's accident is a wake-up call for him, and he is ready to prove to Bell that the only woman he wants is her. Can she let him in and trust him enough to take a chance on something more?

I liked both Dane and Bell. I thought that these two were great together and I loved their connection. Seeing them get to know one another and take things slowly was nice. Dane was patient and gave Bell time to adjust to something she had no experience with. Yet he also didn't let her avoid him or push him away like she tried to do. I was glad that he was persistent, and I think that was exactly what she needed. I loved seeing them figure things out, and they were really sweet with one another. Their feelings were genuine, and their connection was natural. They also had great chemistry, and the attraction between them was clear.

I will say that this book was very slow and frustrating at times. Bell had a horrible upbringing, and that had a huge effect on her. She was awkward and didn't understand things that most of us take for granted. She had a lot of ground to make up, and sometimes that was very tough to get through. I wanted her to stop constantly doubting Dane and quit pushing him away. I do understand it, but as a reader sometimes it got old. I also didn't care for the fact that there were extra POVs in this story besides just Bell and Dane's. I felt like it was distracting and gave this book a disjointed feel. While I understood the reason behind it and that the conflict/drama was needed, I felt like this delivery method was not to my taste and I would have preferred something else. I did like the characters here though, and I am very interested in going back and reading the previous books. Jennifer Ryan might have been a new to me author, but I will be looking for more from her in the future. If you like sexy cowboys with your romance, this is definitely a book worth checking out. Bell and Dane were great, and I think that a lot of readers will really enjoy their story.

Let me start by saying I enjoyed the last two stories. They weren't phenomenal, no, but they were good, solid contemporaries with solid foundations, and I enjoyed Jennifer Ryan's writing style.

So when HER LUCKY COWBOY came my way, I knew that I'd enjoy it...

...but I wasn't prepared for how much I would enjoy the youngest Bowden brother and his fight to win the heart of Bell -- a girl who for the longest time, he was convinced was an angel of his imagination. An angel who's blue feather he tattooed on his forearm.

Bell's life hadn't been easy, and your heart can't help but feel something for her. She was the illegitimate daughter, the granddaughter hidden in her grandmother's rooms, the girl who feared even innocently touching the fallen teen boy for fear of what her highly spiritual grandmother would do. Having grown up in that environment, Bell's sense of worth and belonging are severely lacking -- something that Dane wants to fix.

I loved how ... stern, I guess is an ok word... Dane was with Bell when they first re-meet as adults. He doesn't take no for an answer; he demands her eyes and her words. Bell, an incredibly bright woman, has some social issues -- and that, of course, stems from her early years.

I absolutely enjoyed the characterization Jennifer Ryan managed when it came to Dane and Bell. There were times where Bell's trust issues seemed to blow up too quickly, and then she forgave even more quickly, but I enjoyed Dane's patient ways (even when he was demanding answers from her -- he still did it in a caring sort of way). But mostly, I loved Dane welcoming Bell into his family, into his friendships, and giving her, finally, the sense of belonging she's craved for so long.

Emotional Wrecker

What an emotional ringer Her Lucky Cowboy happen to be. When I started to read this I didn't expected to be an emotional wrecking ball. Yes, Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball popped in my head. Rough doesn't begin to describe what I went through as I read through the story. A lot of it stems from Bell's backstory. Oh my, I don't know if we could give an even more tragic backstory. Basically, she's the bastard daughter of Dr. Warwick, who made a mistake when he younger. Too prideful to admit he made one, he decide to hide Bell at his parent's home never look back. While there Bell didn't get a chance to feel love, because she was raised by crazy religious nut job called grandma. Seriously, she was horrible. There were times I wanted to crawl into the story to scream at the grandma and say, "You call yourself a christian. Oh my god you are a horrible person. Do you really think Jesus would be proud of you." Yes, I totally felt that way. I mean grandma would tell
"Bell every day that she was nothing but a sin, a spawn of evil, something to be hidden away from civilized, God-fearing people. Even her own parents had recognized the evil in her and cast her out."
Heart breaking to see those hateful words. Bell just needed someone to standup for her. Good thing Dane stepped up to the plate.

Dane is an awesome character. However, he's kind of a manwhore. I mean he had no problem with women chasing him, but when it came to Bell he had to change his game. Of course, when he hears about Bell's past, he really has to up his game. After all Bell has been told most of her life that she was evil and no good, even though she's a doctor. I love how Dane steps up and prove time and time again that he wants to be in Bell's life. It takes him a while to get her to understand.

Beside Dane chasing Bell, there is trouble a stirring. We see that one his friends is in trouble and he doesn't know how to save her. Another heartbreaking moment. I don't want to go into too much detail about that situation, but it does get a little hairy towards the end. We know there is a happy ending, but getting their is a big challenge. However, I do love this line that was towards the end:

"You have filled up my heart and my life with everything I never knew I was missing until I found you. I'm the lucky one."
Yes, you may melt. Loved this story, but you will need a box of tissue. If you aren't crying at some point Her Lucky Cowboy, you have truly been desensitize. This is story that truly is about overcoming the past and finding a new hope and start. I can't wait for more from this series. There will be more to come with the next lucky bachelors.

I leave you with my all time favorite quote from the story which made me think of Aqua's Barbie Girl:
"He's like a one of those bug zapper lights. He attracts every blonde in a hundred-yard radius," Bell commented.

Rare First Hand Accounts

There are some things that only a first-hand account can truly convey. The kind of details that put you into the cockpit as a participant, and not just an outside observer. This book has those details, offering an unparalleled look at modern jet aviation air combat from the pilots that scored the kills.

The book chronicles all US air-to-air victories made between 1981 and 2001 - most of them scored during Operation Desert Storm (over Iraq) in 1991, or Operation Allied Force (over Bosnia) in 1999. Retold from the testimony of the pilots who flew the missions, this book offers a glimpse of the real world adrenalin rush, that you just don't get from the more dry, historical texts covering these same wars and events.

This book is a must-have for any jet aviation enthusiast, providing a much-needed companion to the broader historical texts written on these wars.

A Must Have

Craig "Quizmo" Brown is a former US Air Force fighter pilot who has used his considerable connections and expertise to compile this complete list of US air-to-air victories dating back to 1981.

The beauty of this book does not lie with the reproduction or illustrations, although both of these are very pleasing, but with the authority of the text. The entire book has clout not because Brown has interpreted the engagements as he believes they occurred, but because he has tracked down and interviewed a great many of the pilots involved in the fifty-six different kills described within; what you read is almost always the recollection of the man in the cockpit at the time. There are only a few exceptions to this, and Brown is clear about the source and the timeline in which the information was obtained at the start of each narrative.

This is a great book for anyone interested in modern military air combat, and in particular the cutting edge technologies employed by the United States Air Force and Navy to achieve total air dominance in major conflicts since 1981, with Iraq and the Balkans being the two major theatres. There's no 'gung ho' attitude or blatant bias to the narratives - the candid nature of the fighter pilots interviewed means that many recall their kills warts 'n all. That means they highlight what went wrong as well as what went right, and for the reader it's a privilege to be treated without condescension.

The subtext to all of this is that there are acronyms in this book - there would simply be no way to write this book without incorporating them, and they are an integral part of modern air combat. They usually relate to some technical device or concept that are easy to understand. None are left unexplained, and they barely detract from the flow of the text since their use has been kept to a minimum. A full glossary is provided at the beginning to help establish what these all mean before you delve into the action.

In summary, Debrief is an excellent book containing what are effectively fifty-six short stories. That makes it ideal for those seeking a short read (or with short attention spans!), but does not alienate the more analytical and hard core of aviation enthusiasts and historians because there are a significant number of learning points to discover in each engagement narrative.

Debrief has certainly earned a prominent spot in my overcrowded book case, and I believe it is a `must have' reference work.

Exciting Collection of Combat Reports!

In this invaluable 2007 volume, ex-USAF fighter pilot Craig Brown presents blow-by-blow accounts of all 56 successful air combats fought by U.S. air units between 1981 and 1999. In terms of accuracy and excitement, Brown's book can't be beat since, in almost all cases, the accounts were supplied by the aircrew involved in the engagement. Air combat enthusiasts will want to add this exciting, well-illustrated book from Schiffer Publishing to their collection post-haste.

The engagements covered in DEBRIEF are a real smorgasbord of aircraft types and geographic locations. Not unexpectedly the Air Force and Navy's top-line fighters - the F-14, F-15 and F-16 - were the main players not to mention the occasional odd-duck like the A-10! Likewise their opponents were a mixed bag of MiGs, Mirages, Sukhois, helos, transports, trainers, etc. With few exceptions the kills were made with AAMs, mainly AIM-7 Sparrows, which may surprise some readers considering the Sparrow's dismal record over North Vietnam.

Though I gave DEBRIEF five stars, to be honest I felt 4 1/2 stars a more appropriate rating. Don't get me wrong: DEBRIEF is a great read and stands as THE definitive account of post-Vietnam War engagements. The air combat junkie in me loves this book. The first-person accounts, though heavy with fighter pilot techno-babble, put you right in the cockpit for some very exciting missions. Then too the narratives are illustrated with hundreds of photographs, mostly in color, of aircrew, aircraft, in-flight formations, ships, squadron patches, etc. and ten artworks depicting specific engagements.

The amateur historian in me, though, wishes Brown had done more with his material. Having compiled all this raw data, he could have made the book much more useful by doing some basic analysis of all those engagements. Specifically, what do all those combats MEAN in terms of modern air combat?

Reading through DEBRIEF, several points easily come to mind: what a killer machine the F-15 is, what a dominant role U.S. AWACS platforms play in modern air combat, the outstanding performance of the AIM-7, etc. So why did the F-15 perform so well? How have AWACs aircraft reshaped air combat? How come the Sparrow performed as well as it did and so on?

Then too I wondered if there were unsuccessful engagements during that timeframe and, if so, why did they fail? When I was doing the research for my MIG KILLERS OF YANKEE STATION I felt it was equally as important to discuss the failures as well as the successes to get the complete story. I would have enjoyed reading Brown's take on fighter combat in the 1980-90 timeframe.

In any case, if you like reading about air combat, pick up a copy of DEBRIEF asap. You won't regret it!
